The industrial activity was spread from Nea Ionia to the surrounding refugee settlements of N. Philadelphia, N. Chalkidona and N. Irakleio; as a result the area was developed as an important fibre-textile industry centre of Greece. Many factories were built in these areas, from which only a few survive. Britannia factory and Vamvakourgia (cotton processing industry) are the last specimens remaining at Nea Philadelphia. |
