1st Cemetary of Athens, The peaceful co-existence of different cultures
Maria Daniil, architect MSc N.T.U.A. The 1st Cemetery of Athens dates back to the initial years of the foundation of the Greek State. From historical and artistic point of view, it is considered very important and forms an open-air collection, representative of 19th c. sculpture. It accommodates Orthodox, Protestant, Catholic and Hebrew burials. It is a sacred space that monuments of different civilizations peacefully co-exist, a place that we owe respect and we have duty to preserve.
