ΙΝ EXCHANGE FOR FIVE APARTMENTS AND ONE SHOP
Α documentary-essay on the architectural and social evolution of Athens as shown in the Greek fiction films (from the oldest Greek fiction film of 1924 to these of 2004). The main vehicle for this journey is the presence and the narration of four Greek stars that marked different periods and cultural contexts of Greek cinema: Nikos Xanthopoulos, Xenia Kalogeropoulou, Nikos Kalogeropoulos, Mirto Alikaki.
In total, 530 images (shots) of Athens taken from 184 different Greek films, plus 18 images originally shot for the documentary.
Benaki Museum, which is the most acclaimed, aspiring and innovative museum of Greece today, produced this documentary in order to gather, classify and save in a single documentary a great part of the images of Athens as shown in Greek feature films. Benaki Museum commissioned Dimitris Filippidis, professor of Architecture in the prestigious Athens Technical University and Yannis Skopeteas, lecturer in the University of the Aegean, to research into 2500 Greek features and write the script. Together with their team of researchers, they discovered that there are more than 500 feature films released in the cinema theatres that contain interesting material on the architectural and social evolution of Athens. Then, Yannis Skopeteas, an active film director as well, supervised the editing, planned the new shots in the heart of contemporary Athens and directed the documentary.
