Really good news came from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism few days ago; this was the decision that the two neoclassical buildings at the junction of Makrygianni-Hatzichristou-Mitseon streets, behind the New Acropolis Museum, are not to be demolished, but maintained and repaired to accommodate functions of the museum. The General Secretary of the Ministry Mrs. Lina Mendoni, in her letter to MOnuMENTA, dated 20.1.2010, announced the decision in response to the recent letter, sent by MOnuMENTA to the new Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Paulos Geroulanos, on 15.1.2010, seeking preservation of the buildings and their use for the needs of the new museum. A similar letter was sent by MOnuMENTA on 7.1.10 to the General Secretary of Urban Regeneration and Regional Planning at the Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change, Maria Kaltsas. |
