The 18th of April has worldwide been designated as the International Day for Monuments and Sites. International organizations such as ICOMOS and UNESCO have established this special day so as to promote people's awareness about the diversity and significance of planet's monuments, but also to evoke individual's sensibility for those which are in danger. Within this context, on the 18th of April each year, states around the world organize different types of activities, including visits to monuments and heritage sites, conferences, poster drawing, article writing etc. School students are playing a leading role to these activities. Each year a different theme is selected in order to celebrate this special day. The theme agreed for this year is associated with the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, a text of a great significance and especially with the particular topic: "World Heritage and Viable Development. The Role of Local Communities".
Given the above, MOnuMENTA, a non profit civil company for the protection of the natural and architectural heritage of Greece and Cyprus (www.monumenta.org), along with the collaboration of different organizations around the country, organize the activity: "Drawing a Poster". The activity addresses to children and teenagers. It's main theme is: "The 18th of April. International Day for Monuments".
Monuments are all around us and so they can provide with many ideas to draw a poster. Each region has a great number of monuments belonging to different periods of time (ancient, byzantine, modern) which could possibly become the theme of the poster. The posters send will be presented in MOnuMENTA'S web page.
