After long anticipation the Fifth Department of the Supreme Court (Council of State) of Greece has withdrawn the demolition orders for the buildings near the new Acropolis Museum.

Contrary to the Ministry of Culture 2007 decision, local residents had filed a petition, so that the building in 17 Dionysiou Areopagitou str. will remain standing and be preserved. The Council of State (decision no 2338/2009) has accepted the petition and will move on to cancelling the Ministry of Culture 2007 decision.

Despite the positive proposal of Ms Sakellaropoulou, the Supreme Court has decided (no 2335/2009) against MOnuMENTA and citizens' petition for suspension and cancellation
of the Ministry for the Environment & Ministry of Culture decision not to preserve the buildings in Chatzichristou and Makrygianni str. and Chatzichrisou and Mitsaion str. Thus, the stage is set for demolition.
