The creation of a new Environment Ministry by the new government cabinet under Prime Minister George Papandreou is good news for the environment. Greece's first ever Environment, Energy and Climate Change Ministry will be headed by Tina Birbili, and deputy Ministers Yiannis Maniatis and Thanos Moraitis.
The Ministry of Culture was merged with the Ministry of Tourism and Pavlos Geroulanos is appointed as Minister and Angela Gerekou as Deputy Minister. We are waiting to see what will happen with the competence of the former Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works over the modern architectural heritage. Hopefully there will not be colegislative Ministries for the protection of architectural heritage, which up to today has faced many problems due to this phenomenon. |
