Greece is no longer the same place due to the uncontrollable blazes in Peloponnese, Euboea and Attica. Tens of people lost their lives, thousands of animals were burned to death, hundreds of houses were ruined, 270.000 hectares of forest land were burned to ashes, monuments and traditional settlements now face serious problems. If to the above we add the fires and the burnt forests in Parnitha, Pelio and various other regions of Greece, then we speak of a massive catastrophe, the consequences of which we shall constantly face from now and onwards.

Our land is in constant danger!  and we must realize that this is mainly our problem to solve! It’s not only the anonymous state responsible, but also every one of us that should aim to escape his lonely course in life and actively participate for the common benefit. Each and every one of us must believe that it is of great importance to demand providence for the common interest and not for the mere happiness of its own "family" with all the people that it encompasses...

Τwo photographs of great beauty, by the messenian photographer Panos Eliopoulos (1897-1985), which his daughter, Elisavet Eliopoulou, kindly send to us. Τhe first one is of ancient Olympia and the hill of Kronio and the second one of the lake Kaiafa; both pictures were taken in the ‘60s; both places have been destroyed by the fires.
