The Diolkos was a paved road constructed in the Isthmus of Corinth during the tyranny of Periandros, in the early 6th century B.C. Its purpose was ship transportation (mostly warships) from the Corinthian Bay to the Saronic Gulf and vice versa. Until today, the western section of this great technical construction has been excavated. Unfortunately, it has suffered severe damages and that may cause its complete destruction.
